What's this site all about?

Background

This website was inspired by the Pwnagotchi, a clever Raspberry Pi-based device which exploits weaknesses in the WPA/WPA2 wireless protocol to acquire special authentication packets called handshakes. It's possible for an attacker to obtain the passwords of target Wi-Fi networks by running bruteforce or dictionary attacks against captured handshakes.

Pwnagotchis can be configured to upload crackable handshakes to wpa-sec.stanev.org, which is a distributed WPA PSK auditor that uses the power of the crowd to crack handshakes. In some cases, handshakes can be cracked in minutes depending on the complexity of the password.

Using data from wpa-sec.stanev.org, this website aims to be the Wi-Fi equivalent of Have I Been Pwned, offering a public service that lets you check whether your Wi-Fi network has been compromised or fingerprinted by a Pwnagotchi.
